SOUTH AUSTRALIA - LAKE ALEXANDRINA - DREDGING AND DISPOSAL SITE FOR STOCKPILED MATERIAL IN THE NARROWS

Dredging Operations will be carried out from approximately 29th January 2010 until 31st March 2010 for the removal of stockpiled material to complete the previous Lake Albert pumping project.

This current project involves a cutter suction dredge to remove and relocate the previously dredged material in the Narrows between Lakes Alexandrina and Albert to a site offshore in deeper waters of Lake Alexandrina to mitigate the Acid Sulfate Soils (ASS) environmental hazard and future navigation hazard. A total of 65,000 m3 of material will be dredged.

As a result of the dredging being undertaken to remove the stockpiled material, a channel will also be prepared that will have the capacity to deliver Lake Alexandrina water to the extraction point on the blocking bank, to Lake Albert to sustain water levels.

Dredging co-ordinates are as follows:

0m  Latitude: -35 ° 30 ' 35.41422 ''  Longitude: 139 ° 11 ' 6.07684 ''
100m Latitude: -35 ° 30 ' 32.28291 ''  Longitude: 139 ° 11 ' 5.03595 ''

800m Latitude: -35 ° 30 ' 10.12439 ''  Longitude: 139 ° 10 ' 59.10509 ''

The disposal site in Lake Alexandrina will be enclosed within a silt containment curtain 200 m wide by 1200 m long to minimise disturbance to surrounding areas and will be in place until the sediment has settled. The material will be deposited at no greater than 300 mm depth/bottom coverage.

Disposal Site co-ordinates are as follows:

NW corner Latitude: -35 ° 28 ' 58.61648 ''  Longitude: 139 ° 11 ' 37.33937 ''
